CJC-1295 with DAC is a synthetic analog of the growth hormone-releasing hormone (GHRH) that is naturally released by the anterior pituitary gland. CJC-1295 contains 30 amino acids and has a molecular weight of 3645 g/mol. This peptide was originally designed from another synthetic peptide known as sermorelin (GHRH 1-29). Researchers at ConjuChem Biotechnologies created CJC-1295 as a way to study GHRH with a longer half-life. Endogenous GHRH has a half-life of around 7 minutes, making it difficult to use in in vitro and in vivo studies.1 With this, they added on a drug affinity complex (DAC), which is designed to enhance the half-life and therapeutic window of the peptide. This maleimido complex added to the N-terminus of the peptide helps it bind to albumin in the bloodstream in a process known as bioconjugation, preventing the peptide’s degradation. An additional 4 amino acids were substituted in the peptide as well to make it more resistant to proteolytic cleavage. (Teichman) CJC-1295 is also available without DAC in other formulations on our website. GHRH, and thus CJC-1295, both induce the secretion of both growth hormone and insulin-like growth factor-1. However, CJC-1295 greatly increases levels of both hormones by at least 2-fold in humans, with the effects lasting several days.1 In a mouse model missing functional GHRH, CJC-1295 was able to stimulate normal GH release, making it an ideal tool for studying growth hormone pathways without interfering with downstream signaling.2 While some studies show CJC-1295 being used in humans, this formulation is not approved for that purpose. CJC-1295 with DAC may only be used for in vitro laboratory research studies.
